Course: Side Dish, Sides
Cuisine: American, Thanksgiving
Servings: 9 servings
- 2-3 sweet potatoes sliced thin
- 4 apples sliced thick
- 1 lb ground sausage
- 1 cup brown sugar
Preheat oven to 400℉ and grease a 9x13 baking pan.
Brown sausage in a large pan over medium high heat.
While sausage browns, slice sweet potatoes into ¼ inch rounds and apples into ½ inch slices.
Place half of the potato slices in the bottom of the baking pan in an even layer.
After sausage is browned and cooked through, sprinkle half of the sausage over potatoes to create another even layer.
Then, layer half of the apples on top of sausage to create another even layer.
Sprinkle apple layer evenly with half of the brown sugar, and repeat steps 4-7 with the other half of the ingredients.
Place the casserole in the oven and cook for 45 - 50 minutes or until the potatoes are soft and the casserole is golden brown. Check every 10-15 minutes and baste with any excess liquid to retain moisture.
Let cool, serve and enjoy!
- Cook times will vary based on the thickness of the potatoes. Use a fork to check for desired tenderness.
