3-Ingredient Beer Biscuits

5/5

These super simple 3-Ingredient Beer Biscuits are vegan, use just 3 ingredients and are ready in just about 30 minutes! They are light and fluffy and go with just about any meal. Feel free to smother them with butter and jam for breakfast or alongside chicken dishes for a hearty dinner!

It would be impossible to have a southern cookbook without a biscuit recipe. My mamaw’s has six then it moves on to countless rolls and bread all with a southern family twist. Biscuit recipes are personal and everybody has their own special ingredient. Mamaw’s was beer. While yeast and buttermilk clearly have their place in the traditional biscuit realm, there’s something about a 3-ingredient beer biscuit that screams simple southern comfort food.

Beer is, in most cases, cheap and a natural rising agent. When combined with a pre-made biscuit mix like classic Bisquick, this biscuit is not only simple but cost-effective. This is the biscuit for “I can’t make biscuits people.” While it may be one more step than popping a can, it is only three ingredients and is ready in minutes!

What really makes these biscuits so great, however, is their versatility. They can be made with almost any beer you have on hand and can easily be made vegan by greasing the pan with oil or Crisco instead of butter. You can choose to opt for a more sweet muffin by adding fruit, spices, or even chocolate chips. Or you can keep them as-is and add eggs and sausage for a savory option. Although these biscuits may seem simple, they’re far from boring and are a delicious way to dress up breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

Dinner: These are the perfect side dish for almost any dinner classic. Pair with chicken dishes for a homestyle classic or use as a chili dipper for a cozy winter meal.

To Save for Later…

While these biscuits are best enjoyed fresh, leftovers can be cooled and stored in an airtight container to maintain freshness!

Course: Breakfast, Side Dish
Cuisine: American, Southern, Vegan
Servings: 16 biscuits

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Classic Bisquick Mix
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 12 oz beer warm

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 450°F.
  • Grease muffin tin with butter or cooking spray.
  • Add all ingredients to a large bowl and beat with a mixer on low until combined.
  • Let batter rest uncovered for 20 minutes until batter has risen slightly.
  • Divide batter evenly in muffin tin until cups are ½ full.
  • Bake for 9 - 11 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let biscuits cool in the pan for a few minutes in then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • Although beer is a main ingredient in the recipe, it is mainly used as a leavening agent. Therefore the biscuits themselves should have no actual beer flavor once cooked!
  • Using a lighter beer (any light lager) resulted in a fluffier biscuit that is lighter in color
  • Using a darker beer (any traditional lager) resulted in a denser biscuit that is darker in color
  • This recipe was tested with lager beers both domestic and craft but should be successful with almost any style you prefer! Just be aware that coloring and density may vary!
